100kGarages
100kGarages is a new service to help Makers find digital fabrication shops all over the world. A collaboration between ShopBot Tools and Ponoko, we'll be there to talk to Makers about local manufacturing, digital fabrication, and how 100kGarages can help Makers and Fabbers connect.

Another Side of In
Boston Cyberarts Festival collaboration with musician Mike Gordon (Phish) and artist Marjorie Minkin. Artwork with custom embedded electronics detects proximity of viewers to control both light and sound. Involves ultrasonic range-finders, custom wireless MIDI network and embedded mp3 player. Would bring working components to demonstrate, but not set up full artwork installation.

Brooklyn Aerodrome
We build out of mostly trash remote controlled airplanes. They are scratch built, cost around $100 to create and take around 3 hours to build. We will show the aircraft, do demonstration flights and share the design.

DIY Displays
We present a collection of fabrication techniques and Arduino-based platforms that allow users to design and build truly one of a kind displays. Example displays include a screen-printed electroluminescent 7-segment display, a flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, and a liquid crystal display (LCD) game screen.

Eracer
My Electrathon Eracer is a one horsepower, lightweight, streamlined, battery electric race car. It holds the world record for its class, 62 miles in one hour, and has topped 100mph at Bonneville. We built it in my basement, and tow it in a custom aero trailer with my Honda Insight.

FIRST LEGO League
We'll like to demonstrate autonomous LEGO NXT robots that solve missions and dodge obstacles on the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) POWER PUZZLE robot table game. We'd bring in the 4x8 table and robots so guests of Maker Faire can see the innovative engineering and programming developed by the 9-14 year olds who participate in the FLL. As the Tournament Director for Rhode Island's FLL, I would be on hand to provide information on forming and coaching teams for the 2009-2010 season. The demonstration space would be hosted by coaches and students who participate in the FLL.

Hydro-Squirt Master Mk1
Rotary magazine 5cc syringe based, pneumatically powered squirt pistol. This is the first in what we hope to be a series of water pistols exploring the essence of the idea. Megan already has dibs on this one so we'll need at least one more...

Making Cool Things With Microcontrollers
Anyone can learn how to make cool things with microcontrollers! Even if you've never sewn a button, you can actually make a fun, intriguing project at the Faire. Blink lights, hack your brain, play video games, turn off TVs in public places — microcontrollers can do it all. This is for all skill and experience levels. Ages 5 to 100. You can even learn to solder!

Mississippi Mixer (video)
An episode of Scrapheap Challenge (US name Junkyard Wars). In a tribute to I.K. Brunel, the teams were tasked with building paddleboats. This episode was never shown in the US. My team (The NERDS) turned the drum of a cement mixer into a diesel engined, cargo carrying sternwheeler. Will also be bringing various (tbd) recumbent bicycles of my own design/construciton.

Modkit: Simplified programming of Arduino and Compatibles
Modkit is an online development environment that makes creating programs to control physical interactions as simple as clicking together little virtual lego blocks.. We'll be demoing Modkit and our proto boards which can connect to sensors and lego motors to build little contraptions... Modkit also works with Arduino compatible boards so if participants own one they can bring it along and we'll show them how the Modkit environment can be used to program their Arduino as well.. Modkit is not yet publicly available but we'll be giving out invitations to join our alpha testing program.. Hope to see you there!

olopede
olopede is a series of kits designed to teach electronics while remaining functional and modular. Current teaching kits suck because they aren't reusable, they're poorly documented, and they aren't cool. So far, we have a function generator/noisemaker, an Arduino clone called modularduino, and a turing machine & lightstrip system.

One-Person Submarine
I am working on a one-person submarine which can go down 30 feet and travel for six hours at full power (5 mph). I have been building it for 6 months. It will be going down in one week.

Robots Learning from Demonstration
RLAB (Robotics, Learning and Autonomy at Brown) will interactively demonstrate learning from demonstration technology. Participants will teach a robotic dog new tricks. Controlling the robot with a wiimote, participants will demonstrate behaviors like finding and kicking a ball. The robot will then try to perform these tasks on its own.

stuff we make and do @ keeseh
We'll be showing work that has come out of Keeseh and providing people with information about what we do at Keeseh. Keeseh Studio is a design collaborative with prototyping and fabrication capabilities. The workshop provides machinery, tools, and workspace that local artists and designers rent using something resembling a membership system. This gives artists and designers access to capabilities, resources, and a community of others with whom to share their ideas and gain critiques. To encourage the growth of woodworking as design and craft, Keeseh offers woodworking classes. Keeseh additionally offers design and consulting services and works both with individuals on commissions as well as designs for industry. The studio’s clientele includes Crate & Barrel, Room & Board, Maria Yee Inc, Pli Design, Up Country, and many more.

The Autophenakistoscope
This project will be in Make, volume 20. The Autophenakistoscope: This device explores motion picture technology by computerizing the very earliest motion picture device (The Phenakistoscope, invented in 1832). By combining the phenakistoscope, a gear motor, a strobe, and an Arduino, the user to gains an intuitive understanding of motion picture technology.

Willoughby and Baltic
We are a group of artists, engineers and makers in the Boston area. The group would like to come down and show some of what we've been working on over the past year. This includes two downhill racers (one made out of a bathtub, one make out of a port-o-potty), a pong game done in 3d out of wood, our tesla coil, robotic puppets, and a whole bunch of handmade tools.
