Closer to the Ocean
I'm an artist/crafter with loads of mixed media pieces made almost entirely of recycled goods. Everything from art to hang on your wall to jewelry to furniture. Vintage goods given new life to notebooks made of recycled paper of all kinds. All sorts of themes run through these creations, from anatomy and physiology to paper cranes, plants, and the occasional humorous mustache. While there, my lovely partner in crime, Miss Amelia Jane, will stitch recycled notebooks and I will decorate the covers. This could easily be opened up to folks who want to customize something they'd like to buy- we can bring along lots of materials and let folks design their own! We'll stitch the notebooks, they paint/draw/type on them, and if they want they can choose or bring an image to be transferred onto the cover. The same can be done on single sheets of recycled pages from books/maps, etc. to be framed!

FIRST LEGO League
We'll like to demonstrate autonomous LEGO NXT robots that solve missions and dodge obstacles on the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) POWER PUZZLE robot table game. We'd bring in the 4x8 table and robots so guests of Maker Faire can see the innovative engineering and programming developed by the 9-14 year olds who participate in the FLL. As the Tournament Director for Rhode Island's FLL, I would be on hand to provide information on forming and coaching teams for the 2009-2010 season. The demonstration space would be hosted by coaches and students who participate in the FLL.

Modkit: Simplified programming of Arduino and Compatibles
Modkit is an online development environment that makes creating programs to control physical interactions as simple as clicking together little virtual lego blocks.. We'll be demoing Modkit and our proto boards which can connect to sensors and lego motors to build little contraptions... Modkit also works with Arduino compatible boards so if participants own one they can bring it along and we'll show them how the Modkit environment can be used to program their Arduino as well.. Modkit is not yet publicly available but we'll be giving out invitations to join our alpha testing program.. Hope to see you there!

The New Flesh Workshop
The New Flesh Workshop designs and develops Functionally and Aesthetically Customized Prosthetics and Orthotics, Biomedical Implant Devices, Wearable Gadgetry, and Party Armor. MISSION STATEMENT The New Flesh Workshop is dedicated to the development of technology which allows individuals to expand their options for interacting with the world. By creating devices and gear that are functional – as well as beautiful – we allow people to remain both independent and stunning as the world is engulfed by the fires of Armageddon, with the skills needed to provide for themselves, their loved ones, and the world. All too often the utilization of technology as an extension of human form is bent to the intent of making life easier for the individual, rather than making the individual more self-sufficient. He or she is not more able to interact freely in a technological or ecological environment, but is instead shielded from it. If a tool is to truly serve as an extension of human form then not only must it provide a fundamental function, but also be an expression of the individual utilizing it. To that end The New Flesh Workshop has been created to make real the things many are programmed to think are impossible and in doing so provide a means for the expression of humanity through technological form.
